Export to Mailchimp

Kombai generates Mailchimp-specific HTML emails for the input design. Our integration helps to push emails to Mailchimp directly without any manual steps involved. By-default, all emails are entirely editable in Mailchimp when exported via Kombai.

Connect Kombai to Mailchimp

Connecting the Mailchimp account to Kombai is a one time activity. To connect your Mailchimp account to Kombai:

1. Go to Settings and scroll to bottom.
2. Click on Connect in Mailchimp section under Connected Apps.
3. Create a new API Key in Mailchimp. Visit this section to know how to generate an API Key in Mailchimp.
4. Paste the generated API Key & Account Name in the input box, and click Connect.

Generate API key in Mailchimp

Follow the steps below to generate an API key in Mailchimp:

1. Open the Mailchimp dashboard.
2. Click the organization's profile picture in the top right.
3. Click on Profile.
4. Go Extras → API keys.
5. Click on Create a key.
6. Name your API key and click Generate Key.

Select Mailchimp as the default ESP/MAP to export emails

Here are the steps to set Mailchimp as the default ESP/MAP:

1. Go to Settings and scroll to Select ESP to export your email.
2. Select Mailchimp from the dropdown.
3. Apply the settings.

Handle merge tags in Mailchimp

Here's an example of how to add merge tags like unsubscribe link and mange preferences in Mailchimp:

1. Go to Settings → Replace texts with Merge Tags → Links tab.
2. In Text column, add the text where you want to place the unsubscribe link.
3. In Merge Tag column, add the following merge tag - *|UNSUB|* and tap .
4. Again, in the Text column, add the text where you want to place the manage preferences link.
5. In Merge Tag column, add the following merge tag - *|UPDATE_PROFILE|*, tap and confirm.

Export to Mailchimp

Follow the steps below to export the email to Mailchimp:

1. In Kombai, go to Export Code → Export to ESP → Mailchimp.
2. Connect your Mailchimp account to Kombai(if not connected). Visit this section to know how.
3. Name your template and Click Export to Mailchimp. Once the template is created, you will get a direct link to Mailchimp where you can view the uploaded template.
4. Optionally, you can create a campaign using the template. Once the campaign is created, you will get a direct link to Mailchimp where you can view the draft campaign.

Edit email in Mailchimp

Each email exported via Kombai is fully editable in Mailchimp. All the texts and images used in the email can be edited and replaced in the Mailchimp editor.

There are two ways to edit an email in Mailchimp:

Edit a template in Mailchimp

Follow the steps below to edit a template in Mailchimp:

1. Open the Kombai-exported template in Mailchimp.
2. Click on Edit Design in the bottom pane to open the design in Mailchimp's editor.
3. Select a design element to edit or replace it.
4. If it's a text, edit it in the right sidebar.
5. If it's an image, go to Replace in the right sidebar and insert or upload a new image.

Edit a campaign in Mailchimp

Follow the steps below to edit a campaign in Mailchimp:

1. Open the Kombai-exported campaign in Mailchimp.
2. Click on Edit design in the Content section to open it in the Mailchimp's editor.
3. Select a design element to edit or replace it.
4. If it's a text, edit it in the right sidebar.
5. If it's an image, go to Replace in the right sidebar and insert or upload a new image.

Disconnect the Mailchimp account

Follow the steps below to disconnect the Mailchimp account:

1. Go to Settings and scroll to bottom.
2. Click on Disconnect in Mailchimp section, under Connected ESPs.
3. To re-connect your Mailchimp account to Kombai, refer Connect your Mailchimp account.
