Wipe Reveal animation#12 of 32Web

How this animation works

Animations example for Web: pointer-driven before/after wipe.

  • Trigger: hover — cursor position along one axis sets the wipe line.

  • Motion: two full-bleed images are stacked; a soft-feathered gradient mask keyed to the pointer wipes the after layer across the before (left-right in some variants, top-bottom in others), a glowing seam line rides the wipe edge, and a custom themed cursor sells the metaphor; the reveal retracts on pointer leave.

  • Structure: stacked layers + an animatable CSS custom property driving a linear-gradient mask from pointermove. Best for: transformation and comparison heroes — restoration, then/now, day/night.
