Kombai is now available as a standalone desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux — no editor required. Open any project in its own window (or several projects side by side), design on the Canvas and chat with the agent in a resizable split view.

You can now recreate a design from any URL with the new Clone URL skill. Just paste a reference link and let Kombai rebuild the look and structure in Design Mode.

The Rules and Commands section in Settings has been completely rebuilt. You can now create, import, organize, and delete project rules, commands, and skills from a single place.

Following Anthropic's latest announcement and the US government directives, Claude Fable 5 has been removed from Kombai. All other supported models remain fully available.

The Inspiration Library now includes a collection of production-ready templates. You can use any design as a reference or remix it directly in Design Mode to generate a unique design that matches its look and feel.

You can now pick the exact model for each design engineering task and switch between every popular option as you work, from Claude Fable 5 to GPT-5.5 to Gemini 3.5 Flash, and more.

When you're unsure, select Auto to let Kombai route your prompt to the best model for the task. You can also use other Model Routers like Ultra and Mini to route to performant or cost-optimized models, depending on the credits you want to spend.

Models replaces the earlier Agent Variants. Manage which models are available from the new Models section in Settings.

We've upgraded the Ultra Agent Variant to use Claude's new Opus 4.8 model.

You can now leave comments directly on your Design Mode Canvas and have the agent go through these comments. Use this when you want the agent to make multiple edits to your design. Add multiple comments related to improvements and ask the agent to go through them and take actions.

Design Mode now includes a viewport minimap, making it easy to see your whole layout at a glance and jump to any section. Click anywhere on the minimap bar to navigate instantly.

You can now ask Kombai to create reusable commands, project rules, and skills that agent follows during every interaction. Use the new /Create Command, Create Rule, and Create Skill slash commands to scaffold them.

Use the new /Summarize slash command to summarize any conversation thread, perfect for preserving decision logs, action items, or knowledge discovered during a session.

Kombai's agent can now suggest switching between modes (Plan, Code, Debug, Ask, Design) mid-conversation when it determines a different mode would be more effective. You'll be prompted to approve or decline the switch — the agent never changes modes without your confirmation.

A new context bar above the chat input shows exactly which files and context items are currently attached to your conversation. The agent also now tracks your active editor file to keep context current as you navigate.

Kombai now has the capability to create stunning scroll animations in Design Mode. To use it, turn on the "High Creativity" toggle under Quick Settings. This will also embed your designs into a Desktop-sized screen to properly display the scroll animations as you scroll.

You can now browse all assets generated using the 'Generate Image' and 'Generate Video' skills via the menu in the top title bar.

Kombai can now generate images and videos using your text prompts. You can configure the model, aspect ratio, output resolution, duration, audio, etc., before generation, and Kombai shows you the estimated cost per asset upfront so there are no surprises.

The Enhance prompts feature improves the clarity, specificity, and overall effectiveness of your prompts before you send them to the agent.

To use it, type your input in the chat window and click the icon to enhance your prompt.

Skills in Kombai are portable, version-controlled packages of knowledge that extend the agent's capabilities to perform domain-specific tasks.

When you start a conversation in Kombai, the agent sees the names, descriptions, and file paths of all available skills. If your task matches a skill's description, the agent then reads the entire `SKILL.md` file and follows the instructions while performing the task.

You can now generate fully editable wireframes and architectural diagrams as Excalidraw diagrams directly from Kombai's chat using the Create Wireframes Excalidraw and Create Architectural Diagram Excalidraw skills.

Open the generated diagrams in your browser, tweak them by hand, and paste them back into Kombai to keep iterating until you're happy with the result.

Kombai now builds Context Graphs for the reusable code items (aka “reusables”) in your codebase, including components, stateful primitives (e.g. hooks, stores and modules), design tokens, types, and constants. This gives Kombai a deep, semantic understanding of your project and enables consistent reuse of these items during code generation.

Kombai Browser Extension now opens by default every time you lauch Kombai Browser.

You can now use Kombai Browser to live-edit text on any site you visit. This allows you to test content changes safely without affecting the live website.

Simply click the icon to enable editing mode. Click on any text element to start typing. Once you are happy with your changes, send them to the Agent for code implementation.

For medium and high-complexity tasks, Kombai now generates a Todo list directly within the chat stream. As the task progresses, Kombai automatically verifies and strikes through completed steps, reflecting the current status of the task.

Kombai Browser now has a dedicated browser extension to use the element selection tools.

It also lets you visually edit your project's CSS styles inside the browser to preview changes instantly. Once you have made your changes, you can send the applied CSS changes directly to the Agent for code implementation.

Fixed a bug that caused the Kombai screen to get stuck when switching away from the IDE window.

Kombai now has a specialized debug mode to diagnose and resolve complex frontend bugs.

Use Debug mode when a bug is hard to reproduce consistently, the root cause is unclear, multiple systems may be involved (e.g. API calls, state management, side effects, etc.), earlier fixes didn’t work, or you expect to introduce temporary changes to the codebase that must be cleaned up afterwards.

Kombai now auto-compacts older messages in a thread to save tokens, letting you continue long threads without hitting context limits.

Compaction is enabled by default and automatically triggered by Kombai at certain stages but you can also manually trigger it by clicking the Compact thread button under the button in the chat response.

We've added the Ultra variant powered by Claude's Opus 4.5 model, best for hard tasks and deep reasoning. To use it, simply select Ultra from the Agent Variants dropdown before sending your next message in Kombai.

Kombai now supports queued messages. Any message sent to Kombai will be queued if the Agent is already occupied with a task. Queued messages will be automatically sent to Kombai when the current task is complete.

Kombai now has a single, merged browser with the abilities of the earlier user and agent browsers. You can use it to attach DOM elements and console outputs to the Kombai chat, or ask the Agent to autonomously perform tasks and test your applications in the browser.

Now you can use @Terminal to share your terminal logs with Kombai. It gives the Agent the full context it needs to debug errors. This saves you from manually copy-pasting giant error logs. Kombai can just read the output directly and fix the underlying issue.

Kombai's new frontend skills let you improve your projects' designs. With these skills, you can ask Kombai to suggest and visualize themes, review your current designs, and create wireframes for new pages and sections in your project.

Kombai's new "Agent Variants" are distinct modes that determine the underlying Large Language Model (LLM), tools, and resource allocations for a task.

They provide you granular control over the trade-offs between quality, agentic capabilities, credit consumption and speed. There are three supported variants: High, Medium, and Mini.

Resource library lets you use external frontend resources such as colors, fonts, animations, UI components for your tasks in Kombai.

Type @resources in the chat input, select a resource category and click on the resource you want to use. Now, prompt Kombai to use the attached resource for your task.

Kombai now has a separate Plan mode, replacing the "Plan for complex tasks" features in the Agent mode. Use plan mode to generate a plan for your features. Once you approve the plan, Kombai will auto-switch to Code mode to generate the code based on the plan.

Kombai can now autonomously navigate and interact with the browser to perform tasks. Ask Kombai to navigate to different pages, click on buttons, and fill out forms to test your applications.

We have improved the capabilities of the Kombai browser. It now has access to the performance tab, and network requests in the browser dev tools.

Kombai has updated its pricing model. We now offer three tiers: Free, Pro, and Enterprise.

Pro plan users can choose from multiple credit bundles based on their usage needs. The plan rates and billing cycle for existing paid users will remain unchanged.
