GLØD

Heat, stillness, and the North.

GLØD retreats are architectural saunas set in the rawest landscapes of the North.

Lofoten, Norway

Why we build

We build where it is hard to build.

We build saunas in places that ask something of you to reach them. Each is a single architectural gesture — black timber, fire, and water — placed where the landscape is at its most uncompromising.

01

Architecture

A single form in black charred timber — nothing more than the building needs to be.

02

The ritual

Deep heat, cold water, and the long rest between — the sequence every retreat is built around.

03

The landscape

Each sauna is placed where its setting is most uncompromising — coast, forest, fell or lava.

Heat is the oldest ritual of the North.

The GLØD ritual

Heat, then cold, then stillness.

Every GLØD retreat is built around one unhurried sequence: the deep, even heat of the löyly; the shock of cold water or snow; and the long, quiet rest that follows.

Curated and furnished entirely by GLØD, each retreat is an effortless fusion of Nordic minimalism with the particular character of its place.

We did not set out to build hotels. We set out to protect a ritual — and the buildings followed.
